Night Photography and Light Painting
Deadline, Midnight, January 23, 2019

It's time to start submitting your candidates for the next round in our City Hall Gallery.  To try something a little different we are looking for photos taken in the dark.  Examples include star photography, event photos taken after sunset, light trails or light painting.  See the current and previous City Hall Gallery photos at this link.  For those of you who are new to the idea of light painting you can check out the Wikipedia article here or the work of Dave Black here.  Our December Field Trip will be a good opportunity to take night photos.

To Be Determined

January's field trip date and location information are coming soon.

We would love to hear any suggestions you have, so please EMAIL suggestions in to the club as soon as you can.

Happy Holidays!

2018 In Review

As the year comes to a close we all have a tendency to look back and review what we've done and plan for what we can do better in the future.  In looking at Zenfolio in preparation for backing up our event photos I noticed some quite impressive statistics.

Did you know that at the time this was written we had 246,677 photos in 3,642 galleries on Zenfolio.  Since we began using Zenfolio we have had an amazing 18,773 visitors.  There have been 301 visits just in the last two months.

It's clear that our photography for the community serves a purpose and gets looked at on a regular basis.  In 2018 we took photos at 37 events and many of them were multiple day events.  We currently have on display 15,328 photos (assuming my math is correct) that were taken by our members throughout this year.

Can you guess which month had the lowest number of photos taken, or which had the most?  Do you know the common denominator in the collage accompanying this article?  All the photos were taken at 2018 events so that isn't the answer.  And no, they weren't all taken by the same photographer.   Want to know the answers?  See you at the meeting in January.

General Meeting Speaker

Gian Carlo, Wedding Photographer

Monday, January 7, 2019

For most of us, when we begin our journeys as wedding photographers, inspiration comes easy. We are inspired because everything is new and amazing. During this time, we create our identities as wedding photographers. We develop our style, and embrace the adventure of being an artist and entrepreneur.

However, as time passes, we become busy with all the demands of running a business. We have little time to spend looking for inspiration, things are not as new anymore and we are not inspired as we were before. We often are committed to a style of shooting and editing and we are more afraid of change and tend to stay in our comfort zone.

There have been many points in my short career as a wedding photographer where I too have been at similar creative crossroads. I want to share my journey of how I went from feeling uninspired, unsure, and at best, like a pretty good copycat photographer. I want to show you how I recreated my voice as a wedding photographer at the mid-way point of my career and how it not only transformed my work, but also my career and business.

Photo Review Meeting

Monday, January 21, 2019

Monday, January 21, 2019
Meeting is at the Oviedo Woman's Club
 414 King St.

Bring 5-7 photos from recent events or any recent photos you would like to share. Be sure to use a labeled folder with the date on a thumb drive and rename the photo files with your initials and a number (ex: OP-1, OP-2, etc.) for the photos you want to share. This will keep your photos together when they are being shown and make it easier for our projectionist.

If you have photos that you would like help with, bring them with you!  If there is time, our club members can give you pointers on what to do.
